Bug Bombs: Not Always a Good Thing

Eeekk! There’s a bug! Now what? You grab the fogger from the big box store shelves so you can kill them all. How many of you have done this? I see you slinking down your chair so not to be noticed. Using these bug bombs is a common homeowner treatment for insects. Does it work? Is it safe? Yes & No to both questions.

These pyrethrin cans will rid your home of a few insects, but only the ones that actually get the fogging material on them at the time of release. The fine droplets won’t penetrate into the cracks and crevices where the insect families hide. When the coast is clear, you will start seeing the insect survivors. There is a chance of insecticide resistance, too.

Safety is a concern when anyone, homeowners AND pest professionals alike, use these total release foggers. The applicator needs to cover any areas that the insecticide shouldn’t touch and need to clean those surfaces after the application. The insecticide makeup has a synergist added to make it aerosolized and flammable. This means all, yes, ALL flames, pilot lights or any other ignition sources need to be addressed prior to applying.

No one wants to really find out what the term “bug bomb” is referring to. Horizon Pest Solutions is properly trained in the use of total release foggers, liquid insecticides, baits and many other pest solution methods. There are appointments available just for you. 785-914-3684
